their disposal. Setting stringent targets for reducing the amount of waste going to landfill and the amount of energy and fuel that we consume we are accredited with ISO14001 across the majority of our locations.
Sustainable management
In the UK we are proud to be amongst a small group of organisations in our sector accredited with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - Chain of Custody guaranteeing our paper comes from forests managed to internationally agreed principles. These include: compliance with national legislation, respect for local people's rights, ecological integrity, economic viability and the need for adequate planning and monitoring of operations. Our colour management accreditation ensures far less waste in the production process and our waste management accreditation ensures everything we dispose of is done so with the least impact to the environment.
Our environmental footprint has been minimised in many ways. The most significant development being the use of split printing through our global print network, we call this ‘distribute, print, distribute’ whereby work is printed as near as possible to the final recipient, thus reducing the carbon emissions arising from long haul logistics. This environmental impact is reduced further by the use of digital rather than lithographic production where possible with its lower energy and chemical use and then further improved by the utilisation of finishing techniques such as giving a perfect binding effect but without the use of hazardous chemicals.
